Winter Training Wear: How to Develop a Collection That Layers Together

Training apparel is often approved one garment at a time, yet customers wear the pieces together. A long-sleeve top, quarter-zip and jacket may each fit well individually but feel restrictive as an outfit. For a winter training collection, compatibility between layers should be part of the original product brief.

Describe the intended layering combinations

Define which pieces are expected to be worn together. A top designed to sit close to the body needs a different fit brief from a jacket intended to cover that top and another layer. Do not simply apply one measurement chart to every product.

As a development exercise, separate the range into a next-to-skin top, an optional middle layer and an outer garment. These are product roles, not a mandatory outfit for every session. The intended activity and conditions should determine which combinations are relevant.

Control ease and movement

Ask for measurement charts for each style and explain the reference outfit used in fitting. Check the chest, upper arm, armhole and shoulder when layers are worn together. Test reaching, bending and the movements relevant to the sport, rather than approving fit from a standing photograph only.

Review sleeve and body lengths as a set. The outer garment should work with the planned inner layers without creating unintended bunching. Document whether cuffs sit inside or outside one another and how the garment behaves when the wearer raises their arms.

Review the small details that affect daily use

Check whether collars stack comfortably and whether zip ends contact the neck. Evaluate pocket access with all intended layers on. If thumb openings or ankle zips are included, verify their position on a sample rather than copying dimensions from another style.

Decide which garments need secure storage and how much. Several bulky pockets in the same area can make an outfit awkward. Also review logo placement: a mark that looks prominent on the inner top may be hidden under the jacket.

Compare materials in the actual outfit

Request labelled swatches and record composition, construction, weight and inside finish. Review how the materials slide against one another and whether the complete outfit permits the intended movement. A soft hand feel alone does not establish the suitability of a garment for training.

If moisture management, wind resistance or another measurable property is required, ask for an agreed test and acceptance criterion. Distinguish requested performance from properties that have already been verified for the chosen material.

Build a focused OEM/ODM sample request

Our training collection provides useful style references, including a quarter-zip top and lightweight jacket. For your winter project, identify the proposed fabric changes, fit adjustments and branding instead of assuming the reference garment is the final specification.

Send quantities by style and colour, size charts, artwork and a list of intended combinations. XMTSPORTS offers OEM and ODM development for custom sportswear. Request a winter training wear quotation with your brief so the sampling scope and production requirements can be reviewed together.
