Zip-Up Hoodie Manufacturer: What Brands Should Specify Before Sampling

Choosing a zip-up hoodie manufacturer involves more than adding a zipper to a pullover design. The front opening changes the garment’s construction, graphic layout and fit review. For clothing brands, a clear development brief helps establish which details must be resolved in the first sample and which options need separate costing.

Specify the zipper as a component

Define whether the design needs a one-way or two-way opening, the visible appearance of the teeth, tape colour and puller style. Provide a component reference where possible. If a particular zipper brand or model is required, write it into the specification instead of relying on a general description such as premium zipper.

Agree the finished zipper length for the reference size and how lengths will be handled across the size range. Include the inside finish around the opening and any top cover or guard. These decisions should be reviewed with the proposed body fabric and rib, not selected independently.

Check the front both open and closed

During fitting, assess the hoodie zipped up and worn open over the intended inner layer. Review the front balance, neck opening, hem levels and how the fabric sits beside the zipper. Record any waviness or uneven appearance for correction rather than assuming it will disappear in production.

Photograph the garment flat and on the wearer. Confirm whether the sample contains the intended zipper and fabric; a temporary component can limit what the sample proves. If either changes, identify which parts of the approval need to be repeated.

Develop hood and pocket proportions together

Review hood depth, opening and attachment to the neckline in both wearing positions. Specify single- or double-layer construction and whether drawcords are included. A reference photograph can establish direction, but dimensions and the physical sample should settle the final shape.

On a split front pocket, check the relationship between the two halves, pocket openings and zipper. Confirm pocket size and location in measurements. For side pockets, review access and the inside pocket bag so the exterior appearance is not the only approval point.

Plan artwork around the opening

If a graphic crosses the front zipper, discuss the intended break and acceptable alignment before sampling. Supply separate artwork dimensions and placement instructions for the left and right sides where needed. A large design that works on a pullover may need repositioning on a zip-up style.

Request print or embroidery trials on the intended fabric, followed by a complete garment review. Check the result after any specified finishing process and agreed care trial. Record the approved version rather than relying on an earlier digital mock-up.

Send a brief that can be quoted

Include front and back drawings, a measurement chart, fabric preference, zipper details, quantities by colour and size, artwork, labels and packaging. Ask which decisions remain open and whether custom components have separate development costs or minimum quantities.
